Poldy Van Lynden, Project Manager at our corporate partner Ve Interactive, is running the London Marathon on behalf of Concern Universal and we are behind him every step of the way, metaphorically speaking of course. Each week Poldy will be documenting the peaks and troughs that come along with preparing such grueling challenge in his personal blog, keeping us fully in the know. Please share any advice, photographs, personal experiences you think would help Poldy through our Facebook or Twitter with #runPoldyrun.
Hi, my name is Poldy and I’m delighted to be running the London Marathon for Concern Universal. I would consider myself a fit, active person but although I have run long distance events before, this is my first ever full marathon. I’m nervous and excited in equal measure about the event, but it feels great to take on such a massive personal challenge for a really deserving cause.
When I first signed up, the marathon had an almost illusionary aura about it, being so far down the line, but with April 20th now firmly on the horizon I know that the next few weeks will be crucial! Unfortunately I’ve been off my out of action for the last week with a badly bruised foot, but I’ve fully recovered now and back pounding the pavement.
Normally I manage to go for a run either before or after work and believe me it’s some days it’s more difficult to find the energy, but hey I wasn’t expecting this to be easy! I also try to fit some cycling into my regime to reduce the stress on my joints while still getting some excellent cardio.
The next few weeks will be tough as I start to ratchet up the mileage, but knowing the money I raise will be used by Concern Universal to make a significant difference in so many people’s lives keeps me lacing up those trainers!
