President Banda Attends National Cookstoves Launch, Malawi

The National Improved Cookstoves Task Force in Balaka launched in early January, attended by an impressive array of dignitaries including Joyce Banda (President of Malawi) and Mary Robinson (former President of Ireland).

The National Improved Cookstoves Task Force in Balaka launched in early January, attended by an impressive array of dignitaries including Joyce Banda (President of Malawi), Mary Robinson (former President of Ireland), Vaira-Vike Freiberga (the former President of Latvia), Former Vice-President of South Africa, former Head of UNESCO and the singer and global celebrity Annie Lennox.

Concern Universal is managing the new National Cookstoves Task Force, which has the ambitious target of ensuring 2 million households are using improved cookstoves by 2020. Read more about Improved Cookstoves here.

At the launch, Concern Universal showcased our work in sustainable energy, explaining our approach to carbon financing and how we intended to put this back into communities. Girward Zimba also demonstrated the thermoelectric generator.
